Since 1980, the Creative Writing Program at Linfield University and the Associated Students of Linfield University have supported the publication of a student-run literary magazine. First known as Test-Marketed Downpour, the name was change to Camas: A Journal of Art & Literature in 2001. Camas, a beautiful purple-blue flower with a starchy, tuberous root, was a staple foodstuff of the Yamel band of the Kalaypuya people and still blooms each spring along the banks of Cozine Creek, which runs just north of campus.
Camas has been edited by and published work from a number of notable Linfield alumni, including Shane McCrae, Melissa Yancy, Rob Schlegel, Tor Strand, Katie Higinbotham, and many, many more. Open only to current Linfield students for many years, Camas now accepts submissions from the wider campus community—including alumni, faculty, staff, and administration—residents of Yamhill County, and members of the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde.
